Wizard of Whoopee Aug 10, 2012

This album is so good. The balladeer meets the new first family of bluegrass, legends all. These songs all come from the heart and soul of Dell and the Boys and Steve. You can feel it. They all grew up in these mountains. There's no other place like it on Earth. Coal mines and moonshine and banjos. My idea of Heaven. Steve pulls one of his time-travel tricks, taking us back in time with Carrie Brown. I like it when he does that. Kinda like Ben McCoulough and Johnny Come Lately. I only wish he'd used several microphones. I don't really care for the 'everybody share one old-fashioned microphone' sound. I hope there are some digital microphone tracks somewhere waiting for a re-master someday. I also can't wait till Steve returns to country/bluegrass. These are the Steve songs we play at our pig-roasts. This album is hard to top. Take it from me, the #1 Steve Earle fan. I'll boast now - I have bootlegged down Copperhead Road, have hung out with Steve after the shows by the tour bus. I've bumped skull rings with him, and given him my CD's to listen to. -WoW.
