This is one of Kayak's first albums. It was before they entered into a more 'romantic' period with another singer, Edward Reekers. This album breathes a more straightforward, rocky, and to my view more creative band. Made in the seventies but with a timeless feel over it. The band was very keen on technology which helps now, 35 years later, to still enjoy the quality of the recordings. In later years the band became more and more dreamy, drifting away from the promise of the first years. This was visible, for example, in the Periscope album, featuring the Ruthless Queen hit and especially in one of their latest releases, Close to the Fire, from which mainly the song Two Wrongs really echoes the energy from the Royal Bed Bouncer album. If you would have to choose, i would strongly recommend this album as a good introduction.
