Life is tough and music can be the healing medicine. I, personally, sometimes have a great wish to escape from this planet for a while and live during 40 minutes in a parallel universe. An universe like 'Memories Are Now'. Music, in general, is there to entertain people and must therefore be simply perfect. The trouble is that in all their beauty, they never really escape this planet. Does this album by Jesca Hoop lack beauty? Not at all, almost the opposite with a tune like 'Pegasi', but it creates an own universe of 'weirdness'. There are countless albums where the weirdness becomes an annoying gimmick after a few tunes, but that's where Jesca Hoop stands alone. The songs are like rough diamonds, kept rough on purpose, but diamonds nevertheless. It harks you back to a planet where animals rule and nature is the only law. The music sounds at times like it's born by coincidence and you, the listener, are eye-witness of how this beautiful music was born. Out of key, out of tune, unusual instruments, but always from the heart. And that should be the only law in music.
