This is an album that I will still be unpacking for years to come I think. Essentially it's an epic masterpiece. In terms of the effort they've put in and the overall grandeur, effect and production, I personally think this is their best album. It's so sad that so many people have missed the point here. OK the distortion is cranked up to 7 not 10. OK there isn't a domination of E5 chords. Is that really what music is though? Sure, crunching E5 chords and heavy riffs are something dream theater have put out there in great big bowl fulls in the past. Now, heaven forbid, they've decided to do something different. Something that would stretch them and challenge them beyond anything they've done before. Something to prove once and for all that there's nothing they can't do when they put their mind to it. The outcome is a beautifully crafted album that gets better each time you listen to it. They didn't just hash out a half decent rock opera, they practically reinvented the genre.

I am a lifelong fan of the band. Loved the S/T album, and Dramatic Turn...
At first I couldn't wrap my head around this album, unsure where it fitted within such a body of work such as theirs.
After my third 'full' listen, both parts, cd1 and cd2... it suddenly hit the spot with me. Think of it not as the latest album, but as a full stage musical, the different parts played so well by James. Think orchestra, with John's massive but so catchy riffs. And bravo to the rest of the boys, their input is clear.
I hope, as with me you find it a mindblowingly satisfying, full on musical production that you can not stop listening to. It is that good, at least as good as their last 2 albums if not better. You will not be disappointed.

Technical note on disc one. It runs over 80 minutes, so it will not copy onto one disc. I had to put the last 2 songs from Disc 1, on the beginning of Disc 2. Otherwise, it's an amazing journey!
