Bedouine Bedouine

A haunting album from start to finish. Debut by a promising singer, however... it feels like her voice has been around for a while. If you like your 'folk' to be sober and down to the bone, then this is an absolute gem. Song structures remind me every now and then to Leonard Cohen, strong melodies stripped down to a sparse accompaniment. The arrangements are playful, but never 'leave' the song to make something giant-of-its-own, it's always back to the roots and that's a song to start with. A guitar and a voice to provide a melody and other instruments to add to the strength. And what more do you need? Usually I'm happy when an album reaches it's end and quite often I don't make it til the end, but the player just started this album again and I don't mind! It's a bit early for 'favourite album for 2017', but this is already on the shortlist for me!
