A complete classic rock album. Perhaps DS finest work when consumed whole.
I went to the world tour concert in Hayarkon Park, Tel Aviv, Israel (1 May 1985) - and listening to this music takes me back to the hash filled air, the warm buzzy evening, the amazing sounds. This experience sealed it for me - Dire Straits are without doubt one of my best listening experiences. It's such awesome music. Many of the tracks have been played to death - proof of the exemplary nature of the music - so now when I listen to this album, I make doing so a special event. Try kicking back with a shot of your favourite, chase everyone out of the house, and turn the volume up just enough to almost annoy the neighbours - doing so takes me strait back to Hayarkon Park... all that's missing is that smell in the air...
I grew up hearing the first couple songs and they were ok (if not played to death!), but the 2nd half really started growing on me. these were songs ,while not top 40 fodder, were probably the most emotional and almost heartbreaking in their slow plodding verse. It took almost 30 years for me to hear entire album, worth the wait
I love this record and I remember purchasing this in 1985 as a CD in California. This is still one of my best records to listen too.
